According to Deuteronomy 32:8-9, when God divided the nations at Babel, He "allotted them to the sons of God." Because humanity repeatedly rebelled, Yahweh disinherited the nations, placing them under the administrative jurisdiction of lesser divine council members. These beings eventually demanded worship from the humans in their territories, becoming the corrupt "gods" of the ancient world (Zeus, Baal, Molech). Yahweh kept only one nation for Himself: Israel.
Biblical Cosmology: Sheol, Tartarus, and the Abyss
This event established the concept of Cosmic Geography. To step outside Israel was to literally step into enemy-occupied spiritual territory. Alongside these earthly territories, the ancients understood a strict underworld taxonomy: Sheol (the holding place of the dead), the Abyss (demonic confinement), and Tartarus (the specific prison for the Genesis 6 Watchers, referenced in 2 Peter 2:4). The Cosmic Payoff: The Great Commission is not just a religious outreach program; it is an aggressive mandate to cross enemy borders and reclaim the disinherited nations for the true King.
